This was just one of the many virtual messages that UMass Medical School faculty had for their School of Medicine students on Match Day 2020. In an online approach for this year鈥檚 graduating class, as COVID-19 continues to spread nationwide, students found out where their medical careers will begin through email. 

AMHERST, Mass. 鈥 Five student firefighters from the 橙子影院 Amherst Student Force have been promoted to full-time at the Amherst Fire Department, boosting the department back up to full staffing through June. They will assist with staffing during this period of responding to COVID-19.

The Integrated Concentration in Science (iCons) Program has appointed Wesley J. Dunham as its new strategic communications and program manager. Dunham, who started his new role on March 23, holds administrative responsibilities for iCons Program operations and expansion, student recruiting and admissions, managing program assessments, interfacing with program partners, and creating and executing strategic communications to meet program objectives.

As UMass Amherst shifts to remote learning for the remainder of the spring semester, the School of Public Policy (SPP) is finding ways to keep students and faculty connected outside of the classroom as well, with virtual discussion groups, community meetings and even an online networking 鈥渞oad trip鈥 for students.

When Ryan Hollander, a 2017 vocal jazz performance graduate, saw many of his favorite artists presenting live streamed performances during the COVID-19 pandemic, it struck a chord. 鈥淚 admired the way they were able to adapt and think ahead in order to continue sustain themselves with their craft and their passion in these strange and difficult times,鈥 commented Hollander. 鈥淚 thought of all the music that I used to hear every day in the halls of the Fine Arts Center, and how great it would be to re-connect with my fellow alumni.鈥 

AMHERST, Mass.鈥 Shannon Silva, a biology major and Commonwealth Honors College junior, has been named a recipient of the prestigious Goldwater Scholarship, awarded by the .

Olivia Laramie, a graduate student at the School of Public Policy, presented a paper at the 16th International Research Association for Interdisciplinary Studies (RAIS) Conference on Social Sciences and Humanities. Hosted by John Hopkins University, the March 30 and 31 conference was held online in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.

AMHERST, Mass. 鈥 Daniel Gerber, associate dean for academic affairs, is leading a School of Public Health and Health Sciences (SPHHS) effort to assist the state with its COVID-19 response efforts. Student involvement is a key aspect.

Graduate programs in business, education and engineering at the 橙子影院 Amherst rank among the best in the nation as reported in the U.S. 橙子影院 & World Report 2021 edition of Best Graduate Schools, which was released in March.

The Isenberg School of Management鈥檚 on-campus MBA program was named number 53 among the nation鈥檚 full-time MBA programs, having risen more than 20 spots from the previous year鈥檚 rankings. The part-time MBA program was ranked at 28.

The College of Education is ranked 63rd.

Graduate programs in several science and social science disciplines at the 橙子影院 Amherst rank among the best in the nation in fresh rankings featured in the U.S. 橙子影院 & World Report 2021 edition of Best Graduate Schools, which was released in March.

This year, U.S. 橙子影院 published new rankings in several program areas including public policy. The School of Public Policy is now at 65th for graduate studies in public affairs.
