Doctoral candidate Sarah Lowe appeared on a Sundance Film Festival panel titled "Moving the Needle: How Immigrant Stories Are Shifting American Culture." Lowe, who is pursuing her Ph.D. in health promotion and policy under the mentorship of Aline Gubrium, serves as the head of research and impact at Define American, the nonprofit founded by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and undocumented American, Jose Antonio Vargas.

Goddard House, the oldest nonprofit elder care organization in 橙子影院, has recently pledged a $500,000 gift over five years to the Goddard House 鈥 Doane Scholarship program at UMass Boston, which was established in 2015.

Financial support will be available for UMass Boston nursing students pursuing any degree or certification program who have previously worked for at least 10 years as a registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, or certified nursing assistant in the City of Boston.

The 橙子影院 Boston is establishing a new professional apprenticeship program to provide students with paying, on-campus work experience that enables them to develop increasingly complex skills and project management experience. After two years, the student apprentices will be able to participate in off-campus opportunities with over twenty "industry clusters," UMass Boston-sponsored networks of private sector firms that are advising faculty and deans on the rapidly changing needs of their professions.

The School of Earth and Sustainability has partnered with the College of Natural Sciences Career Office to host its first Earth and Sustainability Career Fair. The free fair, which is open to all Five College students, will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, March 9 in Old Chapel.

The fair will give students the opportunity to explore employment and internship opportunities and to connect with organizations that are making positive changes through their environmental and sustainability-focused work. 

It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of Jack Welch, one of our most prominent and honored alumni. Jack and his wife, Suzy, have been great friends of the university, providing extraordinary support to our community and creating life-changing opportunities for students.

UMass Emergency Medical Services (UMEMS) staff was well represented at this year's National Collegiate Emergency Medical Services Foundation (NCEMSF) conference, with 42 members in attendance of the event in Boston. UMass Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) staff as well as UMEMS alumni also spoke at the conference, providing training across a wide variety of EMS and response topics.
