UMass Medical School was awarded a $1.7 million grant from The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust to address the increasing prevalence of Crohn鈥檚 disease in Puerto Rico in a cost-effective, culturally sensitive way. With the funding, Ana Maldonado-Contreras, PhD, assistant professor of microbiology & physiological systems, will tailor a novel diet created at UMass Medical School to patients on the island with different food availability and preferences.

AMHERST, Mass. 鈥 The Baker-Polito administration and the 橙子影院 Clean Energy Center  that a team led by Extension professor Dwayne Breger at the 橙子影院 Amherst has been selected for a two-year award of more than $228,000.

AMHERST, Mass. 鈥 Results of a new study by ecologists at the 橙子影院 Amherst show that 1,330 nurseries, garden centers and online retailers are still offering hundreds of invasive plant species as ornamental garden plants. This includes 20 species that are illegal to grow or sell nationwide.

The UMass Dartmouth Interior Architecture + Design program recently received re-accreditation from the Council for Interior Design Accreditation, the internationally recognized industry standard that identifies programs that deliver academic excellence.

Second-year UMass Law student was recently chosen as the Law Student Division Liaison to the national American Bar Association (ABA) Commission on Domestic & Sexual Violence. For more than two decades, the Commission has worked to increase access to justice for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking by connecting them with legal professionals.

Associate Professor Dr. Hua Fang (Computer & Information Science) was recently awarded $2,735,127 as part of a prestigious National Institutes of Health (NIH) Research Project Grant (R01). Dr. Fang鈥檚 award for her research project titled 鈥渋PAT: Intelligent diet quality pattern analysis for harmonized MA-National trials,鈥 is the first R01 grant in the history of UMass Dartmouth and Dr. Fang鈥檚 second such honor. The R01 grant program was created to support health-related research and is the oldest grant mechanism used by NIH.
